Illustration & Design
Illustration & Design
Students in Illustration & Design use 2-D or 3-D techniques and media from all other studios and use these in a variety of different hands-on applications. These could be: book illustrations or cover designs; creative packaging designs (for a product or product line); technical and scientific illustrations; or print advertisements. The coursework builds skills in both Technical Design (mechanical, instructional, architectural, interior design) and Interpretive Illustration (an artist’s visual interpretation of a concept or a written text).
Students learn to understand and implement the Principles and Elements of Design and creatively incorporate text in layout to maximize visual impact and strong communication.
Students work with realistic or abstract imagery, by hand or by computers using industry-standard Adobe™ Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign software.
All projects are geared toward developing a portfolio required by students intending on continuing their studies at the post-secondary level or entering the industry directly. Many former students from this studio have graduated from Sheridan’s Bachelor of Illustration and Graphic Design degree programs and/or are now working as designers or illustrators with large and small companies or own their own business.
